Mortimer Menpes: Impressions of Brittany
Mortimer Luddington Menpes was an Adelaide born artist who spent time with his family in Brittany. Between 1881 and 1883, it was here where they formed part of a colony of international artists. Menpes was later attracted to the French region’s rustic charm and history. He achieved success as a travel artist and portraitist and in many of his works you can see Bretons going about their every day activities, in their clothing of the times, customs, and village life.
